Project Information Management System (PIMS)

The Project Information Management System (PIMS) is a web-based application that tracks capital projects for Eastman Kodak. PIMS allows users to create new projects by specifying important information such as descriptions, justifications, milestone dates, and budgetary dollars. The system also allows projects to be prioritized to allow for planning the upcoming fiscal year, tracks actuals spent on each project, allows searches for projects, and creates reports with detailed and summarized cost information.

PIMS is designed to handle multiple "clients." Each of these corresponds to an area within Eastman Kodak to which the corporation assigns a capital budget. The application can be customized for each client to accommodate the specific needs of that client. The clients initially using PIMS are Global Manufacturing (GM) and Research and Development (R&D). The application allows for future extensibility by providing the ability to seamlessly add additional clients. This application is currently used by more than 1,000 users in 13 Kodak worldwide locations and will be rolled-out on a global basis in 2003.

At Kodak’s request, LPA Systems managed and tracked this project using an Earned Value Analysis methodology to enable early detection of problems and issues. LPA Systems can quickly react and implement solutions to problems in a timely manner before they adversely affect the project schedule or finances.

Research and Development Information Management System (RDIMS)

Eastman Kodak allocates a significant portion of its earnings for research and development. All financial aspects for R&D projects are tracked within the Research and Development Information Management System (RDIMS). LPA Systems was engaged to assist in the design and development efforts of a new system to better manage R&D funding. The result was a web-based application based on n-tier architecture. By implementing a web-enabled application, direct data connections to various facilities throughout the world have been all but eliminated. Now each facility can access and manage R&D financial data using the Kodak Intranet as the communications pipeline.

This project was selected as a finalist for the 2000 Kodak Software Excellence Award.
